Titus 3.1-15 tells us about respect for synagogue government authority, like in Rom 13; the revelation of salvation through grace and mercy; maintaining Torah observance; avoiding arguments and contentions; final exhortations.
v 1…Remind them (the assembly) to be subject to rulers and authorities (of the assembly or synagogue they go to; the context is talking about spiritual things not civil-Rom 13), to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed (Hebrew “mitzvot” or commandments as defined in the Torah-v 8),
v 2…to malign no one (speak evil of), to be contentious (brawler), gentle, showing every consideration for all men (be yielding).
v 3…For we also once (at one time) were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
v 4…But when the kindness of God our savior and love for mankind (Greek “philanthropia”) appeared (in Yeshua, the visible love of God and philanthropy),
v 5…he (Yeshua) saved us, not on the basis of deeds (Torah observance; commandments), but according to his mercy (racham) by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Ruach Ha Kodesh (new birth-John 3.5-8; Eph 5.26),
v 6…whom he poured out on us richly through Yeshua the Messiah our savior,
v 7…that being justified by his grace (the source for all blessings) we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
v 8…This is a trustworthy statement (faithful); and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently so that those who have believed God may be careful to maintain (engage) in good deeds (Hebrew “mitzvot” or commandments as defined in the Torah). These things are good and profitable for men (in faith, love, obedience, conviction, comfort, edification, reviving the spirit, heart, mind, intentions, and desires).
v 9…But shun foolish controversies and genealogies (wranglings about points of Torah in relation to family lineage, etc) and striving about the law (as was done by Beit Hillel and Beit Shammai for instance, who disagreed with each other over about 350 different issues; this may include civil lawsuits like the Corinthians in 1 Cor 6.1-8) for they are unprofitable and worthless (of no use).
v 10…Reject a factious man (a heretic who will not learn or be instructed) after a first and second warning (to instruct him),
v 11…knowing that such a man (or woman) is subverted and is sinning, being self-condemned (in rebellion against God).
v 12…When I send Artemis or Tychicus to you, make every effort to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there (near Actium, founded by Octavian about 29 BC).
v 13…Diligently help Zenas the lawyer (who expounded the Torah) and Apollos on their way so that nothing is lacking for them (both were skilled in the Scriptures-Paul thought they might be useful among the Jews in Nicopolis).
v 14…And let your people also learn to engage in good deeds (Hebrew “mitzvot” or commandments in line with the Torah) to meet pressing needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
v 15…All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in faith (a Torah-based faith in Yeshua).
