Tanak Foundations-Concepts in Isaiah-Chapter 30

Isa 30.1-33 tells us about a plan to send ambassadors to Egypt to get Pharaoh to help against the Assyrians (Isa 29.15). Isaiah condemns this action because they were to seek Yehovah, not go to Egypt for help, or send their valuables there for safe keeping. They were making secret plans on their own. Eschatologically, this alludes to Israel asking Europe and the False Messiah (Pharaoh) to help against Russia (Gog/Magog) during the first half of the birth-pains. The Two Witnesses and the 144,000 will warn the Jewish not to flee to Egypt, but to trust in Yehovah and “stay put” as they fear a Russian invasion (Isa10.1-4, 14.28-32, 52.4).

v 1…”Woe to the rebellious,” declares Yehovah (the Jewish people), “who execute a plan (resolve to do) but not mine (not following what he has said through his prophets), and make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, in order to add sin to sin (on top of all their other sins that deserved judgment),

v 2…Who proceed down to Egypt (Europe in prophecy-Isa 52.4; Deut 4.20; Isa 20.1-6, 19.1-25) without consulting me, to take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh (a picture of the False Messiah who will rule Europe) and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt (protection from Assyria, and prophetically from the Gog/Magog/Russian invasion).

v 3…Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame (it won’t help them) and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation (the help they need won’t come through them).

v 4…For their princes (Judah’s ambassadors) are at Zoan, and their ambassadors arrive at Hanes (Zoan and Hanes are royal cities).

v 5…Everyone will be ashamed because of a people who cannot profit them, who are not for help of profit, but for shame and also for reproach (the result of turning their trust to Egypt).

v 6…The oracle (prophecy) concerning the beast of the Negev (this is Egypt also, the southern desert between Egypt and Judah. Eschatologically, this alludes to Europe and the False Messiah), through a land of distress and anguish (desert wilderness), from where come lioness and lion, viper (Egypt/Europe) and flying serpent (the False Messiah-Isa 14.29, 27.1, 51.9, Rev 13.1), they carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys and their treasures on camels humps (to protect their assets from the Assyrians and later with Gog/Magog/Russia), to a people who cannot profit them (Egypt/Europe).

v 7…Even Egypt, whose help is in vain and empty (like vapor-Isa 36.6, 37.9). Therefore, I have called her Rahab (Egypt is called this-Psa 89.10; Job 26.12-13, 9.13; Isa 51.9. It means “Egypt, prostitute, broad wall and pride in the Scriptures) who has been exterminated (won’t be of any use, sits idle).

v 8…Now go, write it on a tablet before them (the entire prophecy), and inscribe it on a scroll that it may serve in the time to come (Hebrew “achan” and is the same as “achar” and it is an eschatological term for the latter days, or when Messiah comes) as a witness forever (olam).

v 9…For this is a rebellious people, false sons, sons who refuse to listen to the instruction (Torah) of Yehovah,

v 10…Who say to the seers, “You must not see visions: and to the prophets, “You must not prophesy to us what is right, speak to us pleasant words, prophesy illusions (they were not willing to follow the Torah or the instruction of their heavenly Father, and wanted pleasant things spoken to them, not misery and danger as a result of their sins).

v 11…Get out of the way, turn aside from the path (don’t hinder us from doing what we want to do), let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel (his word).

v 12…Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Since you have rejected this word, and have put your trust in oppression (forced the Jews to give money for Egyptian aid) and guile, and have relied on them (Egypt),

v 13…Therefore this iniquity will be to you like a breach about to fall, a bulge in a high wall (a bulge indicates it was about to fall), whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant.

v 14…And whose collapse is like the smashing of a potter’s jar; so ruthlessly shattered that a sherd will not be found among its pieces to take fire from a hearth, or to scoop water from a cistern (total overthrow of the nation).”

v 15…For thus the Lord God (Adonai Yehovah), the Holy One of Israel, has said, “In repentance (teshuvah-turn to Yeshua in the latter days) and rest you shall be saved, in quietness and trust (Hebrew “emunah” which means “faith, confidence, action”) is your strength.” But you were not willing (stubborn).

v 16…And you said, “No, for we will flee on horses (provided by Egypt),” therefore you shall flee (before the Assyrians, and later Gog/Magog/Russia)! “And we will ride on swift horses,” therefore those who pursue you shall be swift (God will give their enemies the victory and this has been seen recently in Europe during the Holocaust).

v 17…One thousand shall flee at the threat of one man (overcome with fear), and you shall flee at the threat of five; until you are left as a flag on a mountain top, and as a signal on a hill (a lone signal, a tiny remnant will survive).

v 18…Therefore Yehovah longs to be gracious to you, and therefore he waits on high to have compassion on you. For Yehovah is a God of justice, how blessed are all those who long for him (their condition caused God to be merciful even after he “hides his face” for a little while-Isa 54.8; Jer 30.11, 46.28).

v 19…O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer (this will be fulfilled and given meaning in the return from Babylon-read alongside of John 16.16-28; Isa 65.24). He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, he will answer you (with mercy).

v 20…Although Yehovah has given you bread of privation and water of oppression (chastisement), your teachers (plural in Hebrew “moraycha”) will not be hidden anymore (hiding from persecutors), but your eyes will behold your teachers (doing their work-the word for teachers can mean “your rain” because their teaching drops like rain on your mind, like vegetation. Teachers will be functioning in their office doing their work).

v 21…And your ears will hear a word behind you (to guide you), “This is the way, walk in it (the Torah-Acts 21.24; 1 Cor 11.2; Phil 3.17)” whenever you turn to the right or to the left (don’t deviate from the Torah).

v 22…And you will defile your graven images, overlaid with silver, and your molten images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing (menstrual cloth); and say to them, “Be gone” (to show contempt)!

v 23…Then he will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous; on that day your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture (all of this depends on their repentance).

v 24…Also the oxen and the donkeys which work the ground will eat salted fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork (This will be ultimately fulfilled in the Messianic Kingdom-Rom 8.19. These verses can also be applied spiritually as in the rain means teaching and the bread means the Torah or the Scriptures).

v 25…And on every lofty mountain and on every hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter (when God strikes his enemies, especially in the birth-pains), when the towers fall (fortifications against Yehovah-Rev 14.20, 19.21).

v 26…And the light of the moon (the Kahal or eschatological assembly is seen as the moon who will reflect the light of knowledge and truth) will be as the light of the sun (pictured by the Messiah-Rev 21.23 through 22.3; Psa 19.4-6; Zech 14.6-8; Ezek 47.1-12; 1 John 3.2; Song 6.10; Isa 4.1-6; Jer 23.5-6, 33.15-16; a consistent light) will be seven times brighter (complete) like the light of seven days (alludes to the seven thousand year plan of God which includes the Olam Ha Zeh and the Atid Lavo), on the day Yehovah (day of the Lord) binds up the fracture of his people and heals the bruise he has inflicted (in the Messianic Kingdom-Hos 6.1-3; Ezek 47.1-12).

v 27…Behold, the name of Yehovah comes from a remote place (heaven-Hos 5.15; Mic 1.3; John 14.1-4), burning is his anger and dense is the smoke (heavy punishment); his lips are filled with indignation, and his tongue is like a consuming fire (against Assyria, and later Gog/Magog/Russia, and then the False Messiah);

v 28…And his breath is like an overflowing torrent (a type of the Ruach Ha Kodesh-2 Thes 2.8), which reaches to the neck, to shake the nations (who have come against the Jewish people and Jerusalem) back and forth in a sieve (to sift the worthless), and to put in the jaws of the peoples the bridle which leads to ruin (to send them against Jerusalem-Isa 37.29; Ezek 38.4).

v 29…You will have songs as in the night when you keep a festival (because of the defeated Assyrians, like at the defeat of Pharaoh at the Red Sea); and gladness of heart as when marching to the flute (the flute is pierced with holes so he is called the “pierced one” who leads the way of the multitude coming to Jerusalem for the festivals-he is a type of Messiah who is also called the “pierced one”), to go to the mountain of Yehovah, to the Rock of Israel (Messiah-to sing in celebration of the defeat of Assyria, and later Gog/Magog/Russia on Yom Kippur, right before Sukkot in the month of Tishri-Isa 9.1-7).

v 30…And Yehovah will cause his voice of authority to be heard and the descending arm (from heaven) to be seen in fierce anger, and in the flame of a consuming fire, in a cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones (to defeat Assyria and later Gog/Magog/Russia in the birth-pains-Ezek 38.22; Rev 16.18).

v 31…For at the voice of Yehovah Assyria (Gog/Magog/Russia in the future) will be terrified, when he strikes with the rod (God’s judgment-Isa 9.4, 31.8).

v 32…And every place where the staff of foundation passes (the rod and wrath of God) which Yehovah will lay on him, will be with tambourines and lyres (in celebration of their defeat), and in battles, brandishing weapons, he (Yehovah) will fight with them (Assyria who is a picture of Gog/Magog/Russia).

v 33…For Tophet (Gehenna-Isa 66.23-24; Sheol-Ezek 32.17-32) has long been ready (for Assyria, Gog and Magog, Russia, the False Messiah and his armies, etc), indeed, it has been prepared for the king (Sennacherib and all other unbelieving kings; the False Messiah). And he has made it deep and large (to hold all of them), a pyre of fire with plenty of wood (it won’t go out); the breath (Hebrew “nishmat”) of Yehovah like a torrent of brimstone, sets it afire (like in Sodom-Gen 19.24; Luke 23.10; Jer 7.31-32, 19.1-15, 31.30; geographically Tophet in the Valley of Hinnom south of the city of Jerusalem, seen as the most cursed place on earth).
